Bikers honor deceased riders with monument

Monument

WILLEMSTAD - The committee ‘Right of Way’ composed of 12 bikers clubs have unveiled a monument along the South side of the ring road (Schottegatweg) this afternoon. This monument is in honor of those motorcyclists who have been killed in traffic accidents. The monument not only serves to honor those riders, but to also bring awareness to everyone to be more alert and to have mutual respect in traffic.

In the past three years, seven accidents were registered whereby motorcyclists have been killed. One of the victims was David Martis, the former chairman of the organization. He died on April 24, 2011. For the bikers and the family of the deceased, it was also an emotional day. The monument was unveiled after a speech given by the current chairman Ignacio Rilley, parliamentarian Humphrey Davelaar and Minister of Transport Earl Balborda. The memorial bears the names of the seven victims.
