Border closure means that undocumented Venezuelans cannot be deported

VenezuelansWILLEMSTAD - The decision of the Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to keep the borders for air traffic out of Curacao closed has as a consequence that Venezuelans who are staying illegally on the island cannot be returned.

Undocumented people who are now arrested in traffic checks and other inspections and are locked up in a police cell in prison in the foreigners' barracks. However, there is not much room left.

Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath has instructed to monitor the situation and come up with proposals in case the Venezuelan border remains closed for a longer period of time. According to the Prime Minister, there is as yet no cause for concern about judicial security.
