Bridge repair was amateur work

douanebrug-rotWILLEMSTAD – The bridge between Punda and Scharloo was just repaired, but it can be closed again. This is according to Henk Pasman, a distressed citizen, who did an inspection and captured 26 images of the “repaired” bridge.

In August of this year it was the same Pasman who found that the bridge was sagging and reported that to the Curaçao Port Authorities (CPA). The CPA repaired the bridge through the Public Works Department, but “nothing good came out of that,” according to Pasman.

“The wrong wood screws were used during the renovation, and in some places they didn’t even use screws. The mounting must be such that the planks can be removed if needed for inspection if the joists are rotting. That is no longer possible. There are some loose boards alreday. These can cause the pedestrian to stumble and fall. They even used drywall screws. These are not resistant to the salty seawater,” Pasman wrote in his letter.

Pasman wrote this letter to the CPA to call on them to thoroughly inspect the bridge and carry out the work again.
