BTP & U begins investigation on illegal use of water

WILLEMSTAD - Department of Telecommunications, Post & Utilities (Dutch: BTP & U) has authorized the company Vitens Evides to perfom an audit in five areas where Aqualectra supplies water. BTP & U wants know where there is use of unregistered water or where water is being used illegaly.

The audit will start on Monday August 20, 2012 and will take about two months. The areas in which the investigation will take place are:

  • Tera Kòrá
  • Marie Pampoen and near the (former) Breezes hotel
  • Domi Abou area
  • Breedestraat area (Downtown)
  • Jan Thiel
  • Costs

BTP & U wants to know, with the results from the audit, what the costs are of unregistered use or illegal use of water. The experts of Vitens Evides will start by going into the districts and will be recognized by the nametag that they carry. This may cause some problems because during day and / or at nighttime the water supplie may be turned off for the duration of maximum of four hours.  In addition, residents may experience dirty water (brown color) form some water.


The Utility Company apologizes for the inconvenience. To minimize the discomfort in the affected areas, Aqualectra has published on their website and Facebook page in which areas the research will take place.
