CARIFTA 2017 agreement signed
WILLEMSTAD – As part of the preparations towards the Flow Carifta Games 2017 the agreement was signed last Friday 16 September in Hilton Hotel Curaçao. The signing parties were the North American Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association (NACACAA), the Curaçao Athletics Association (C.A.B) and the Local Organizing Committee (StOA).
The Prime Minister of Curaçao Ben Whiteman and Minister of Sports Ms. Irene Dick were attendees, together with the Consul General of China, the Curaçao Tourism Office and representatives of different local sponsors. The athletes from Curaçao were also represented with Olympic athletes Churandy Martina, Liemarvin Bonevacia and many others.
NACACAA was represented by its president Victor Lopez and Secretary General Michael Serralta, who both flew over from Puerto Rico. NACACAA is the governing body for the Flow Carifta Games, which 46th edition will take place on Curaçao in the period 15-17 April 2017. More than 25 Caribbean countries will participate with 600+ athletes. The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) has started since 2015, and has an important partner in the local Government. After the speeches of C.A.B president Willem Cordilia and NACACAA president Victor Lopez, Prime Minister Whiteman declared that the government supports the event completely. He said that the administrative process for subsidy has finalized and assured the LOC that the funds will be transferred soon so that the preparations can continue without delay.
After the speech of LOC President Igor Cyntje, the agreement was signed and all attendees toasted to this important milestone. The organization of the Flow Carifta Games are not only beneficial towards the sports of athletics, but will also has its advantages for Curaçao towards its positioning as touristic destination.
