CBS starts with victimization survey

Victims-counselingWILLEMSTAD - The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) will conduct a victimization survey. It will be from the end of this month until the end of April. This way, the CBS wants to get a better picture of the extent to which households and individuals become victims of crime.

"In our society, all kinds of crimes are committed where people can become victims. A victim may report this to the police. Experience shows that not everyone does. The registration data from the files of the police does not always give a complete picture of the reality," CBS said in a press release. Using the survey they hope to receive additional information with respect to the crime in Curacao.

There are several questions asked to people who have been victims of crime. These questions include the reporting behavior and opinions on crime and community safety. There will also questions about an alternative approach to tackling crime in which the victim and offender meet to come to a solution of the situation together. CBS has as usual strict, confidentiality of personal data.
