CCAA presents Aerodrome Certificate Hato International Airport to CAP

P1070914WILLEMSTAD – Today the Curaçao Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA) presented the Aerodrome Certificate Hato International Airport to the Curaçao Airport Partners (CAP).

According to procedures stipulated by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), all airports must have this certificate issued by the government.

According to the interim Director of the CCAA, Mrs Caroline Gonzalez-Manuel the way ICAO deals with the aviation system is through the so-called annex. For airports, the annex 14 is important. This is the way the operator, in this case, CAP, deals with the safety of the airport. The operator makes a manual for this.

“If we think about safety, we have to think about the landing strip and where the aircraft are stationed. Also, the lighting, procedures, for example how the airport deals with calamity. We did not look at customs, immigration, and neither the check in counter. Also, we did not look at the aviation company or Fokker,” said Mrs Gonzalez-Manuel.

CAP requested the certificate in May 2015. CCAA then searched for an expert to inspect the manuals made by CAP and they also audited the airport.

The auditors checked the procedures, the airport maps and the surroundings, cargo and ground handling, policy on how to deal with animals like iguanas and stray dogs, control tower, fuel facility, maintenance system (and back up), and training personnel.

Together with a CAP team, CCAA worked hard on these points and the final audit was held in December 2016.
