Cinelandia to get new function
WILLEMSTAD – The outgoing Minister of Traffic, Transport, and Spatial Planning Suzanne Camelia-Römer will meet next week with the proprietor of the Cinelandia building in downtown Punda, Fernando da Costa Gomez to finalize the details of the Memorandum of Understanding.
The MoU between the two parties is almost finished. “Now the ball will start rolling,” said the Minister. Camelia-Römer announced that the owner Da Costa Gomez wants to renovate the dilapidated building in historic city centre of Punda. He wants to turn the building into an office complex. He also wants to offer living spaces and a small grocery store or a restaurant.
The Cinelandia building is a historic art deco style building that is part of the protected monuments. The owner cannot tear it down and build something else there. He can only renovate it and maintain its architectural characteristics.
