Civil servants want higher year-end bonus
WILLEMSTAD – Police union NAPB is still not happy with the year-end bonus of 135 guilders for civil servants. For the chairman of the union, Ronaldo Abraham, it is unacceptable that the bonus is still so low.
The end-of-year bonus was reduced two years ago because Curaçao was in financial dire straits. Now that it is going better financially with Curaçao, officials want their bonus back to the old level.
According to the union leader this year, the government did have the financial space to increase the year-end bonus. “But no, the government decided to transfer extra funds to the Ministry of Social Development for the less fortunate of Curaçao,” Abraham said. He also noted that if the government fails to increase the bonus, there will be serious consequences next year. He did not want to comment about what these consequences are.
He compared the bonus the civil servants in Bonaire and Aruba receive to the one in Curaçao. In Bonaire, they receive 1250 dollars and Aruba 1000 dollars. In Curaçao the civil servants only receive 135 guilders. It used to be 250 guilders.
