CMU Mobile Health Clinic
WILLEMSTAD - This coming Saturday, October 31st 2015 the students of Caribbean Medical University will be organizing the next CMU Mobile Health Clinic for the general public at SAMBIL SHOPPING MALL from 9:00AM to 3:00PM. During the Health Fair all persons who so desire can have their blood pressure taken and their blood sugar levels checked (diabetes screening). We will also be measuring your BMI (body mass index). The results are discussed with each volunteer right away and additional information about diabetes and possible heart diseases or possible causes are explained to volunteers. Furthermore, health screening this time will include eye and ear examination and volunteers will be educated on breast cancer and how to personally do breast examination at home for lumps. Folders on heart disease are being supplied by the Curaçao Heart Foundation while those about breast cancer are through the courtesy of the Sinta Ros Foundation. If needed, participants are encouraged to visit their doctor for additional consultation.
The purpose of the training is for the students to get a chance to practice a few simple medical procedures and at the same time increase the awareness of the health of our community by accentuating the importance of two of the most important causes of illness on the island, being “high blood pressure” and “diabetes”.
