Coast Guard arrest two illegal Venezuelans
WILLEMSTAD - The Caribbean Coastguard (KWCarib) has again intercepted a vessel recently and arrested two Venezuelans. These two are suspected of bringing people illegally into the country.
The radar operator of the Rescue and Coordination Centre of the Coast Guard detected around midnight a suspicious contact on radar southeast of Curaçao. A unit that was patrolling on the southwestern coast was immediately deployed.
About a mile south of Jan Thiel Bay they found an unlit vessel type yola, which again was returning to the south. They were ordered to stop but did not respond to this. There was a chase after the boat and it was intercepted after a short time. The two crew members tried to sink the vessel, but it was the quick action of a coast guard who jumped on board that prevented this.
The yola called the 'Génesis Jose' was taken to the Coast Guard station in Parera. Both occupants of the Venezuelan nationality were transferred to the police. The Coast Guard and the police will continue with their investigation into this case.
