Committee New Hospital: ‘second opinion needed’

Hospital3WILLEMSTAD – The research committee for a new hospital building in the area of Otrabanda brought its final report and gave a positive recommendation to the Government for the construction of the new hospital.

However, the committee recommends that the Minister of Health, Ben Whiteman  to take some actions first before starting with the construction of the new hospital. One of the recommendations is to ask for a second opinion in the area of finance, safety, care content and infrastructure. There are still several uncertainties in the financing of the construction. The estimated deficit of 18 million should be cleared with contributions from the Social Insurance Bank (SVB) and other insurers. The committee has noted that no agreements has been made between the SVB and the Ministry of Finance.

The budget for the new hospital is about 312 million guilders. Most of it should be funded by local financial institutions and commercial banks.
