Complaint filed against RdK and CRU
WILLEMSTAD - Fundashon Promove Drechi Humano Curaçao (Curaçao Foundation to Promote Human Curaçao) pressed charges against the public company Refineria di Korsou (Curaçao Refinery) and Curaçao Refinery Utilities (CRU). They have exposed others to asbestos and that is according to the Foundation a serious offense.
This is evident from documents which are now in the hands of the media. According to the complaint, the asbestos were removed carelessly. As a result, according to the foundation, not only the people who were involved in the storage and removal were exposed, but also the tens of thousands of local residents and users of the roads around the RdK.
Director José van den Wall-Arnemann of the RdK said that he’s not aware of the complaint.
The situation with asbestos on the refinery grounds is worse than imagined. This is according to Eugene Angelica of the Action Group against asbestos. The RdK commissioned the cleanup work on the refinery grounds by contractors who are not certified.
Turbo Machine Shop was commissioned. The contractor is linked to the Pueblo Soberano (PS) party and was commissioned allegedly through the intervention of the then Prime Minister Ivar Asjes.
But Turbo Machine Shop has no expertise in asbestos removal. According to the action group this is fraudulent and the cost of two million guilders was split so that the supervisory board of the RdK could be kept out of the deal.
