Contractor new hospital threatens to sue
WILLEMSTAD – Contractor Ballast Nedam of the new hospital Hospital Nobo Otrobanda threatens with a hefty insurance claim, because the construction of the new hospital is proceeding slower than planned.
Two buildings on the site of the present St. Elisabeth Hospital need to be demolished, but that did not happen yet, so the builder cannot with its work. Construction has thus already been 14 weeks behind schedule and the contractor threatens with a claim of nearly 1.2 million guilders per week that the construction process is delayed.
The south wing and the mortuary will not be demolished because a group of financial institutions does not agree with the way the company is dealing with the hospital land, which is used as collateral for the hospital’s debts.
The Dutch construction company is on the brink of bankruptcy caused by a major infrastructure project in the Netherlands along the A15 and the A2 highways. The company suffered huge losses.
