Court case car rentals against CAP

AirportWILLEMSTAD - Individual car rental companies filed a suit against Curacao Airport Partners (CAP). CAP did not comment on a proposal from the car rental owners who many not pick up their customers from the airport. Most of these clients have their cars often reserved and paid already. Nevertheless, CAP fines each of these car rental companies 100 guilders for each so-called violation of the prohibition. Only certain dealers, as Avis and Hertz may pick up their clients at the airport. CAP has said to evaluate the policy at the end of the year and to possible adjust it for the new year.

Last week CAP informed the individual car rentals that starting Monday July 22 they will be banned from operating at the airport. This was reported in the media based on a letter from CAP. Only some dealers are allowed to do so. The concessionaires involves Avis, Hertz, Budget, Thrifty, Alamo and National.

The victim car rentals were assisted by lawyer Mirto Murray. One of them, Edgar Jardim, owner of Just Drive, says that he does not understand CAP attitude towards them. "The only thing we do is wait for customers who have booked with us and paid with a sign waiting at the airport and take them to the office, where we continue with the business," said Jardim. CAP previously lost a lawsuit against one of the other car rental companies.
