CPA announces renovation pier at Klein Curaçao

beach_house_bigWILLEMSTAD - The Curaҫao Ports Authority (CPA) will start with the ‘Renovation Pier Klein Curaҫao’ project. Minister of Economic Development, Stanley Palm realized the importance of this project and made the execution of it possible.

Klein Curaҫao is a favorite destination for both locals and tourists. Currently, it is difficult to come ashore because the pier was damaged by many storms and lack of maintenance. The goal is to make Klein Curaçao for locals, tourists and fishermen. By renovating the existing pier, it will facilitate boats to bring people and goods on land. The renovation also includes placing four buoys where boats can moor.

This project will also have a positive impact on the economy of Curaҫao. First, because of the investment involved with the work and secondly, it makes the island more accessible to tourists and others. The means to implement this project will be provided by the government.

Except that visitors to the island now have to board smaller boats go ashore, the anchors of the boats can also be harmful for the corals below. This is solved by adding new buoys where larger boats can moor. This will protect the corals.

For the design and implementation of this project, CPA will closely consult with stakeholders such as fishermen and tour operators. The construction of the buoys will be carried out in consultation with the Implementation organization Agriculture and Fisheries of the Ministry of Health, Environment and Nature.

CPA is now busy with all the preparations and it is expected that by early 2015 the work will be ready.
