Criticism on health inspector during meeting

HuurmanWILLEMSTAD - Tensions were high during a recent public meeting of the Parliament of Curaçao. From morning to evening, meetings were held about health care, but Inspector-General Jan Huurman was the focused during a large part of the debates.

Especially the opposition spoke out against Huurman. They distrust him and asked the minister why he was brought back to the island to work as the health inspector.

Minister of Public Health Suzanne Camelia-Römer stated that the process to get Huurman back to Curaçao had already been initiated by her predecessor. She also points out that the inspection is an independent body and that the inspector operates independently of her. To handle any complaints, an independent complaints committee has also been set up.

According to Camelia-Römer, 23 inspections were performed by the Inspectorate last year, but many of the instructions the health institutions received were related to the same problem.
