CTB and CHATA ‘very concerned’ about tourism

chata-logoWILLEMSTAD - Tourism Organizations CTB (Curacao Tourism Bureau) and CHATA (Curacao Hospitality and Tourism Association) are ' very concerned ' about the state of tourism on the island. Both organizations held several meetings last week with individuals and organizations about this topic. In the past week several agencies went bankrupt within the tourism industry.

CHATA and CTB met on Wednesday with several property owners and businesses in the private sector. They mapped the current situation and discussed what should happen in the coming months. Subsequently, CHATA called for a in which CTB has presented its marketing plans for next year.

On Friday, the two organizations together with the Ministry of Economic Development (MEO) discussed the above-mentioned subjects. However, the increased operating expenses (cost of doing business) have also been discussed. Furthermore, they discussed the fact that fewer tourists are choosing hotels as their preferred choice to stay on the island. Despite an increasing number of visitors, hotels still have difficulties. Finally, the master plan for tourism, written and discussed in 2010 was since never implemented.
