Cubans ask Queen Maxima for help

MaximaWILLEMSTAD – In an emotional meeting, a group of 40 Cubans asked Queen Maxima for help during the royal couple’s walk in downtown Otrabanda. These Cubans, residing in Curacao, offered the Queen a letter in which they ask her to help them with their undocumented status. Protocol dictates that the King cannot accept anything from their people. It has to be done by either the Ministers or someone else accompanying him. Since Maxima is not the head of the State, she is allowed to accept petitions like these.

The members of the group have been waiting for years for their residence permits. Minister of Justice, Nelson Navarro wants to put an end to this situation, but his department does not see this issue as a priority, according to the leader of the group.
