Curaçao Airport Partners (CAP) looks back on a very successful third Aviation Security Conference
WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao Airport Partners (CAP) looks back on a very successful third Aviation Security Conference (AVSEC Conference) with speakers John Pistole (President of Anderson University/ Former FBI Deputy Director/ Former head of TSA), Ted Martin (Aviation Security Inspector of the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority), and Martin Kattestaart (CAP Manager Safety & Security). The conference was organized by Assistant Manager Safety & Security Rudwin Mogen and consisted of two days during which presentations about critical safety topics and international measures were held and also workshops were offered to airport security supervisors, coordinators and civil aviation inspectors active in the Dutch Caribbean.
Curaçao Airport Partners (CAP) has been organizing the annual AVSEC Conference with the objective to enhance knowledge at the implementation of security measures in order to protect and safeguard civil aviation against acts of unlawful interference perpetrated on the ground or in flight. Although the conference is targeted for a select group within the aviation safety field of the Dutch Caribbean islands, CAP is looking to expand its reach, in order to enhance the overall sharing of knowledge and safety within the Caribbean region.
Selecting interesting speakers
One way CAP works on attracting aviation security representatives to the conference is by selecting interesting speakers on currently critical topics. This year CAP invited Mr. John Pistole who will elaborate on ‘Counter -terrorism’ and Mr. Ted Martin, who will elaborate on ‘Insider threat’.
Mr. John Pistole is currently the president of Anderson University in Indiana and noted as the FBI’s former Deputy Director. Pistole began his career with the FBI in 1983 and served in Minneapolis, New York, Indianapolis, Boston, and FBI headquarters in Washington D.C. on multiple assignments. In 2004, Pistole was named Deputy Director for the FBI. In March 2006, Pistole was awarded the 2005 Presidential Rank of Distinguished Executive. In 2007, Pistole received the Department of Justice Edward H. Levi Award for Outstanding Professionalism and Exemplary Integrity. Pistole is also the former Head of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). President Barack Obama had nominated Pistole for this function in the spring of 2010, and this was confirmed by the U.S. Senate 60 days later. Pistole has also been honored by Anderson University with an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree and the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Robert H. McKinney School of Law at Indiana University.
