Curaçao has 159,000 documented residents
WILLEMSTAD - The population of the island has increased by more than 2,000 people last year, 2015 to be precise. This is according to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).
The counter now stands at 158.986 people on the island. In total there were six thousand new people, but four and a half thousand left the island. 1500 people died. Most newcomers came from the Netherlands, nearly 3,500.
Most of those who left the island went back to the Netherlands.
The numbers represent the period between January 1, 2015 and January 1, 2016. On January 1, 2016, Curaçao had 72.658 men and 86.328 women.
In 2015, 1874 babies were born (955 male and 919 female). This is 89 babies less than 2014.
