Curaçao up 25 places in FIFA rankings
WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao has risen in the ranking published today from place 174to place 149. This increase is due to the results against Cuba.
Belize is the biggest riser in the ranking.
The Central American country climbed 37 places and is one of the potential opponents of Curacao in the third round of qualifying for the World Cup in 2018.
Other potential opponents are: Jamaica (76), Haiti (79), El Salvador (88), Canada (103), Guatemala (105), Antigua & Barbuda (107), Saint Vincent & The Grenadines (115), Belize (118), Aruba (135), Nicaragua (143) and Grenada (160).
Of all these countries, only Grenada is below Curaçao. This is not very significant, because when Curaçao threw the Cubans out of the qualifying games, Curaçao was 182nd and Cuba 124th.
The Dutch team rose from sixth to fifth place. The orange team owes the rise, to the detriment of Brazil, to the victory of 2-0 last month in Latvia in the European Championship qualifier.
Despite the second place in the Copa America, Argentina took the lead in the world from Germany. Messi and his team were third.
It is the first time since 2008 that the Argentines lead the standings. Chile, which won the Copa América for the first time won, climbs through the achievement from the nineteenth to eleventh place. Strong performer is Wales, which climbs from twelfth places to tenth place. France, on the contrary, took a dive of thirteen places. The 'Les Bleus' are now 22nd.
