Curaçao voted for Blatter after Van Praag dropped out
WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao was also present on May 29 at the FIFA Congress and voted for Sepp Blatter. Chairman Jean Francisca indicated to ‘Voetbal International’ why.
“In our eyes there was no alternative. Yes, one Prince Ali!? What does the world know about him? Nothing,” explains Francisca. “We're not going to vote for someone we do not know?”
The chairman of the Curaçao Soccer Association also emphasized that in his eyes Blatter did nothing wrong. “He's never been bad for our island, those experiences also counted for us. And no, we never even got a cent more than any other country. The only thing is that the same amount has more value for a small island like Curaçao than, for example, the Dutch KNVB, where the annual budget is much higher.”
Still, Francisca would rather have voted for someone else. Michael van Praag was the first choice of the island. “Michael is my friend, our friend. I've told him a while ago: Michael, go ahead man, you're doing great! Unfortunately, he dropped out just before the election, but he had certainly gained our confidence. Who knows in the future...”
