Curoil finalizes process to acquire MT Red Majestic Oil Tanker

Acquisition of the new tanker will guarantee the supply of oil products to the local market

OptimusWILLEMSTAD - After the Curaçao Oil Company (Curoil) announced in October 2017 the acquisition of a new tanker which will function as a storage for oil products, last Friday, after months of hard work and negotiations, the tanker finally entered the territorial waters of Aruba. The official name of the tanker, for the time being, is Optimus.

During the weekend, the inspection of the tanker took place. This process was finished today and the ship was officially transferred to Curoil. In the near future, the name of the tanker will be Red Majestic and will be used to store for Jet A-1 and Mogas 95.

With a capacity of 700,000 barrels and a length of 239 meters, the tanker gives Curoil the possibility to be less dependent on one sole supplier and thus guarantee the supply of oil products to the local markets (Curaçao and Bonaire). This also creates the possibility to import high volume of products which opens the way to negotiate more competitive prices to more islands in the Caribbean. This contributes to more flexibility in Curoil’s operations.

As a company that is in charge of marketing, sales and distribution of oil products to Curaçao, Bonaire, Aruba and Trinidad & Tobago (offshore), Curoil will continue forward as one of the pillars of the island’s economy.
