Damage caused by heavy rainfall
WILLEMSTAD - The rain and storm last Saturday has caused a lot of damage on the island. Parts of roads were washed away, houses were flooded, cars got stuck in the mud and a stationary aircraft of the local company InselAir was damaged by lightning.
According to the Meteorological Services, some areas of the island received no less than 15 centimeters or rain within a few hours.
150 millimeters of precipitation were measured in Colonia, Seru Grandi and Pannekoek, while only 15 millimeters was measured on the east side of the island.
Due to the heavy rainfall a large part of the road to Coral Estate collapsed. Also at Tera Kora the water came pouring from the sky, which caused a partial impassable road. A road which was recently repaired.
