December 2015: huge emissions
WILLEMSTAD – According to the environmental organization SMOC, the oil refinery did it again in December 2015. “The emission of sulfur dioxide (SO2) was huge.” The people under the smoke have ever proved that they are fed up. SMOC was inundated with calls and emails from concerned people during the last month of the year.
The concern of these people under the smoke is justified, as it appears at least from initial measurements. At the height of Beth Chaim, WHO standards for SO2 were exceeded many times (10 minutes average = 500 ug / m3, 24-hour average = 20 ug / m3). See below for the diagram.
