Delays in construction new hospital
WILLEMSTAD – The construction work of the new hospital in Otrabanda is suffering delays. In addition to the delays, there are more costs involved than initially budgeted. Several MPs asked the Minister of Finance, Dr. Jose Jardim about this problem during the debate on the 2016 budget in parliament.
The Independent MP, Omayra Leeflang had submitted written questions earlier to the government on the construction of the new hospital. From the reply she had received, it shows that the construction was caused by the demolition of the morgue and the injection center. It is not specified exactly what the extra costs associated with the delay are.
421 million guilders was budgeted for this project. So far, 92 million has been spent. The initial construction costs, however, were estimated at 394 million guilders.
That the budgeted costs were exceeded, became clear when the diversion of the Hamelbergweg proved significantly more than initially planned. Suzy Camelia-Römer Minister of Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning (VVRP) rang the bell and demanded clarification on the budget overrun.
The response of the government, thus raises more questions, said Leeflang, who indicated that the reaction is 'sketchy'. “They have been cautious about stating the figures, but during the debate of the budget they have no choice. It's a start. Everything must be on the table,” said the Independent MP, who is determined to ask more questions.
