Development of a second mega pier in great speed
WILLEMSTAD – According to the Director of the Curaçao Ports Authority (CPA), Humberto de Castro, the development of the second mega pier in downtown Willemstad has now gained momentum.
“We have now entered a final phase to sign at the end of this month. Then it will take about three to four months before we can actually see the physical construction of the pier,” said De Castro.
A shortlist of three bids from international firms has been made. Two from the Netherlands and one from the United States. According to De Castro, CPA will choose between those three.
Curaçao will have invested a total of 43 million dollars in the development of a second mega pier. This pier is important for larger ships to dock. The current pier is not enough seeing the developments in the tourism sector, especially in the cruise sector.
A final signing will be done in coordination with the Supervisory Board of the public company and the shareholder.
