DMO: The city center is missing 40,000 guilders due to Parking Authority Curacao

parkingWILLEMSTAD - The proceeds of the parking fees in Punda and Otrobanda disappear into the pockets of parties that have nothing to do with the inner city. And the government does nothing about it. This is according to the Downtown Management Organization (DMO).

DMO believes that the current parking problem is a barrier for the population to visit the city regularly.

According to DMO, a LOB (National Ordinance document) request issued last May points out that no funds have been paid to the government since 2010. Examination of the LOB shows that no documents have been found that indicate that money is being paid.

As a result, according to the report of the Court of Audit Curacao, Curaçao will miss approximately 40,000 guilders per month that is necessary for the maintenance of the inner city. But the city sees nothing of this, says Carine Ghazzi, director of DMO.
