First-Zika case in Curaçao
WILLEMSTAD - The first Zika-case in Curaçao is a fact. This was reported by the Ministry of Health, Environment and Nature (GMN). This is a person who has recently contracted the virus during a trip abroad.
The virus, which is transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, has been present for some time now in the Caribbean and Latin America. The ministry has not issued any advice yet.
Prime Minister Whiteman says that it seems too early to issue a travel advisory for pregnant women. Instead, the GMN is taking the necessary precautions to reduce the likelihood that pregnant women are bitten by mosquitos.
