FKP stricter with tenants who do not pay

WILLEMSTAD – Residents living in houses owned by the Fundashon Kas Popular (FKP) (Government housing) who have not paid their rent in a long period of time, even after repeated reminders,  will be evicted. This year a woman was evicted who had a debt of 50,000 guilders in rent.

According to FKP Director Arthur Con, the foundation is now adjusting to a stricter collection policy. For many people with rent arrears payments can be made. If not then the case will be sent to court.

The fact that many residents believe they won’t be evicted is due to the fact that in the past, politicians or members of the board intervened to prevent this, according to Arthur Con. Con used former FOL leader Anthony Godett. The Director of the FKP finds it unacceptable that 6,000 people are on the waiting list who are willing to pay, while defaulters are still in the houses.
