Flamingos in St. Michiel are struggling

Flamingos at Jan KokWILLEMSTAD - Flamingos in the salt pans of St. Michael's are struggling. Saliña is so polluted that the birds become entangled in regular old fishing nets.

These fishing nets are so cheap that when they tear apart, fishermen just leave them and buy a new one.

Unique Curacao Foundation estimates that there are about 300 flamingos in the salt pans. The foundation, along with Curadoet, is organizing a cleanup on March 20. Volunteers who want to help, can report at Curadoet.
