Formalization of medical care collaboration with Curaçao

ORANJESTAD, WILLEMSTAD – After years of working together the government formalized the collaboration with Institute Verriet from Curaçao last Monday. Minister of Health, Richard Visser (AVP) signed a two-year contract for the relief and care of physical and intellectual limited persons. Henk Kamsteeg, director of the umbrella organization Institute for Handicapped Persons and Rehabilitation (SGR group) signed on behalf of Institute Verriet.

For years the regulation on Aruba allows citizens with several physical or intellectual limitations to move to Curaçao where they receive care, treatment and therapy at various institute. Although Institute Intellectual Handicapped Aruba (SVGA) assumes the care for this group on the island there is always the need for collaboration, Minister Visser emphasized. “SVGA is part of the health care chain.” For specific cases the institute itself decides whether the best care is available on the island or on Curaçao.
