Former Prime Minister to appear in court in August

SchotteWILLEMSTAD - The lawsuit against former Prime Minister of Curaçao Gerrit Schotte will be treated by the Court of Justice on August 1, 2 and if more time is needed on the 3rd. The Public Prosecutor (OM) wants to reclaim 1.8 million guilders from him and also more than 200,000 guilders from his life partner Cicely van de Dijs.

That was determined today during a pretrial session. It concerns money that both would have obtained unlawfully.

Schotte was sentenced last year to three years in prison, of which six months were conditional, for accepting bribes, forgery and money laundering. As an additional punishment, Schotte was deprived for a period of five years from the right to be elected during elections. Van der Dijs was sentenced to fifteen months, of which six months were conditional.

Schotte and Van der Dijs have stepped up to the Supreme Court in the Netherlands. That case still has to be treated by the Supreme Court.
