Four large hotels in trouble

Plaza HotelWILLEMSTAD - The Plaza Hotel had to close its doors in June last year due to high debts at utility company Aqualectra. The hotel in Punda was auctioned a month later, but the sale did not go through. About 60 people lost their jobs.

Veneto Holiday Beach Resort was declared bankrupt on 28 August this year. 184 employees were on the street.

For the Howard Johnson Inn Hotel, bankruptcy was declared at the end of last year. Then about ten employees lost their permanent job.

The Kura Hulanda hotels have major problems due to overdue payments at Aqualectra. If this cannot be paid quickly, the hotels in Otrobanda (Kura Hulanda Villa & Spa) and Banda Bou (Kura Hulanda Lodge & Beach Club) will be auctioned. The hotel has until today at 3 pm to relocate their guests before Aqualectra shuts down the power.
