Free-range eggs must be sold at normal price

free range eggsWILLEMSTAD - According to Ron van Meekel of chicken farm Happy Chicken, there must be a rapid change in the policy regarding the sale of eggs. Several supermarkets were warned last week because they sold eggs above the free price.

Eggs are in the basic needs basket and may not be sold higher than a certain price.

Van Meekel's farm has free-range chickens. “Food is therefore given manually and not on a conveyor belt and the chickens have the space to walk around. That all costs a bit more money, so we have to sell eggs more expensive to others”

Van Meekel is in talks with the government and hopes that supermarkets will have the option to sell their eggs in addition to regular, cheaper eggs.
