Fuikdag 2015: less crowded, everything went smoothly
WILLEMSTAD – The traditional beginning of the year boating event, Fuikdag went well. The grand event that takes place the first Sunday of the year in the Fuikbay, attracted fewer people than in previous years. The Coast Guard came yesterday in action when a boat sank. In addition, some water taxis were not allowed in Fuikbay.
This is because of the stringent rules. The government has decided this year to apply more stringent rules because of the incidents that took place last year. When the ferry from Darwin Gregg, Krioyo Blue Curacao, got engine trouble after it rammed several boats. No one was injured, but the panic was great.
There were no permits issued this year for rafts or floating platforms. In addition, no public music was allowed to be played on a raft and or stage. Boats could not be used as water taxis.
