Governor starts with consultation rounds
WILLEMSTAD – The Governor of Curaçao, H.E. Lucille George-Wout begins today with the consultations rounds with the view of forming a new government for the island.
The leaders of all political parties that have received enough votes to secure at least one seat in parliament are invited to meet with the Governor. These consultations will also be continued tomorrow at the Governor’s palace.
In addition to the leader of all political parties that have acquired one or more seats, the Governor will also meet with the Vice-Chairman of the Advisory Council, the President of Parliament and the Minister of State.
The Governor received, from the Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Electoral Council, Charles do Rego, the preliminary results of the parliamentary elections.
After her consultations with the various parties, the Governor in all probability will appoint a so-called “informateur” who will be in charge of gathering information from each political party whether there is the willingness to form a government. After the information round, the Governor will appoint a so-called “formateur”, who will form a government.
This process can be very short, but it can also be very long depending on the willingness of the parties to work together.
