WILLEMSTAD - The Coast Guard Caribbean (KWCARIB) intercepted four vessels in cooperation with Customs on Tuesday 12 December. In total there were eight (8) persons on board, all with Venezuelan nationality. They had a large number of firearms with ammunition and also two hand grenades with them.

The radar operator of the Rescue and Coordination Center detected the four (4) suspicious vessels near the Spanish Water, Curaçao, around 2 p.m. A Super-RHIB from the support center Curaçao was immediately dispatched to the designated spot and found four (4) vessels there. One of the vessels was being towed. The crew of the Super-RHIB went on board and after an investigation, they found the firearms, ammunition and hand grenades. The crew members have all been arrested.

The vessels were towed and brought to the Coast Guard support center in Parera. The eight (8) suspects with the ammunition and weapons were handed over to the police force Curaçao. The information-driven action and the information sharing with the chain partners, in this case specifically with Customs, led to this weapon capture. The case is under investigation.
