InselAir generates nearly 3,000 jobs
WILLEMSTAD – The local aviation company InselAir accounts for nearly 3,000 jobs, directly and indirectly. This is evident from an economic impact study that was held last year by Curconsult. The airline itself indicates to have more than 600 people working directly and more than 2000 people benefitting indirectly from its services.
Those jobs are now in jeopardy now that InselAir has cash flow problems and the government is not willing to help this private company with a financial injection.
The problem started, according to the company, because the South American country of Venezuela does not want to change the Bolivares the airlines has earned to hard currency, in this case, U.S. Dollars. The company claims to have about 100 million dollars stuck in Venezuela.
