InselAir in Parliament
WILLEMSTAD - The deplorable financial situation of the aviation company InselAir will be discussed in Parliament this coming Friday. Outgoing Minister of Economic Development Eugene Rhuggenaath will answer questions about the financial and operational situation of the local airline.
The Minister will also explain how the government intends to assist InselAir and the committee that was appointed to advise them on how to proceed.
InselAir has asked the government for help because they cannot meet their financial obligations anymore. The airline has secured a liquidity problem because they have about 100 million dollars stuck in Venezuela due to ticket sales in Bolivares (Venezuelan currency) that cannot be exchanged for dollars.
The airline has about 600 employees and many experts in the field are already calculating the economic impact its bankruptcy could have for the island.
