Isla supports renovation churches

CatholicWILLEMSTAD - The Isla refinery supports the Diocese in renovating churches on the island. The first two churches that will be covered are located in Otrabanda, the church of Sta. Famia and Sta. Ana, as confirmed by Isla spokesman Kenneth Gijsbertha. With the renovation of these two churches, an amount of 3.2 million dollars involved, that Isla will take for its account.

“We will start this month with the renovation of the church of Sta. Famia and Sta. Anna,” says Gijsbertha. The renovation includes the walls, the roof and the interior of the church will. It is expected that the renovation will take between four and five months. It was the Diocese of Willemstad which approached the Isla refinery with a request for support them. The Roman Catholic Church on the island has numerous churches that require renovation. In total there more than twenty churches which require an amount of 20 million for this project. According to Gijsbertha the request was presented to the Board of Directors of the company, which gave the green light for the project. The project, according to the spokesman, will take several years.

Several churches were renovated earlier. These were the churches of Montaña and Bonam, but also the Emma Church. These renovations were all supported by the Isla Refinery. According to Gijsbertha the investment in local churches is part of the policy of the refinery to invest in social projects.
