It’s getting harder and harder each year for the Luna Blou Theater
WILLEMSTAD – The chairwoman of the board of the Luna Blou Theather, Sharo Bikker indicated that her organization is strapped for cash. “The grant from the government is becoming less and less each year,” said Sharo Bikker.
“We’ve had it pretty difficult before, but every year it becomes even more difficult,” said Bikker. “We still did not get a bailiff's order, but it has not been easy. The government’s subsidy is not enough. Last year the Netherlands stopped their funding of our theater. The situation is now such that we have to take austerity measures.”
According to Bikker, sponsorships are also becoming increasingly difficult. “There are less advertisements and we had to cut down in personnel.”
Another problem is that people on the island are not making productions in theaters anymore. “In the past, there were more local productions. People wrote more plays and arranged the presentation. This has now become less. It is also impossible to bring foreign artists. That costs money, which is something we don’t have,” said Bikker.
