Judge steps aside from Central Bank conflict
WILLEMSTAD - Judge Peter van Schendel who deals with the conflict between two members of the Supervisory Board of the Central Bank and the Board of Directors, stepped aside as presiding judge, but will continue with his mediating role.
The decision is the result of a recusal request filed by the president of the bank Emsley Tromp and board member Jerry Hasselmeyer, which was discussed last week. They believed that Van Schendel by his attempts to reach a settlement could not act impartially as a judge.
Van Schendel himself denied that, but admitted that he was sitting with two different caps and proposed that he will continue as the mediator. If this doesn’t work out, then the case is heard by a different judge.
