Lionstone threatens to file lawsuit against Curaçao
WILLEMSTAD – Lionstone International Limited does not agree with the decision of the government to sell the Rif Resort (Marriot complex) to the Orco Group. Orco Group recently acquired the hotel complex which is being operated by the Marriott International.
The owner of Lionstone International, Alfredo Lowenstein, who is very well known on the island, since they own three hotel complexes on the island, the Curaçao Hilton Hotel, Floris Suites Hotel and Sunscape Beach Hotel, says that they have offered a much higher amount to invest in the hotel and to upgrade it.
Lowenstein indicated that they will file a lawsuit against the government of Curaçao because they feel that they were unfairly treated and left out of the negotiations. The lawsuit will be against the Minister of Finance Dr. Jose Jardim.
Lionstone declared that they had offered 75 million dollars, while Orco Group, which will now remodel the hotel, only offered 47.7 million dollars.
Lowenstein feels that they were put aside and deliberately kept out of the sale and purchase negotiations.
