Many defective parking meters in downtown Willemstad
WILLEMSTAD - In the center of Willemstad, where paid parking is mandatory, many parking meters are regularly broken. In the immediate vicinity of the St. Elisabeth Hospital (Sehos) there were at least four of these machines out of order yesterday.
Some meters have been out of order for several weeks now. Sometimes there is a large sticker in striking colors, so from a distance it is clearly visible that the machine does not accept money and that the users must go look for another. However, usually it is only very difficult to read the screen. Sometimes you get all the way to another machine and this is also out of order or not working properly.
To prevent a wheel clamp and parking fines, some of the users who need to visit the hospital will park in the newly opened private parking, which is twice as expensive.
Parking Authority Curaçao (PAC), a private company, is exclusively responsible for the management and control of pay parking. Global Metals SA has the concession for PAC, which has been operational since 2010.
