Marriott closes after North Sea Jazz
WILLEMSTAD - The Rif Resort, known as the hotel complex of the Marriott Curacao, has been sold. This was officially announced via a press release. The Piscamar Beach Resort of the Orco Group is the new owner of the hotel complex.
The hotel will shut its doors for renovation after the Curaçao North Sea Jazz Festival. It was agreed that the Orco Group will invest at least 33.7 million dollars in a major refurbishment. An additional floor will be added to the hotel and the number of rooms will be expanded to 324.
The staff, which for a long time has been in uncertainty about was what was going to happen will meet with the Marriott this week. This meeting will be supervised by the Curaçao Hotel and Tourism Association (CHATA) and the Ministry of Social Development, Labor and Welfare. The reason for the meeting is to help the staff to get another job. After reopening the new owner decides whether and which of the former employees, will be offered employment at the hotel again.
The hotel will, after the renovation, continue under the Marriott name.
