Meteorological Services faces major understaffing

WILLEMSTAD – The Meteorological Services in Curacao is suffering from a shortage of staff. "The situation is acute," said union ABVO to the media. Yesterday the Meteorological Service staff was on strike for some time because of understaffing. The ABVO says that people at some point just can’t take it anymore.

The union spoke yesterday with Minister Earl Balborda of Traffic, Transport and Urban Planning on the matter. In the coming years, the contract will be extended to employees who actually would retire. But this cannot go on forever, says the union. Employees now have to work and cannot leave us. They should, despite the vacancy stop,  hire new employees, otherwise the organization will break down, according to ABVO.
