Minimum wages adjusted
WILLEMSTAD - The minimum wage in Curacao has been adjusted on January 1 of this year. The minimum wage in 2015 amounted to 8.15 guilders per hour, this year this amount has been indexed to 8.20 guilders. Union leader Kenneth Valpoort urges the government to increase checks on compliance with the minimum wage.
The index was published by the Ministry of Social Development, Labor and Welfare (SOAW). The indexing is dependent on the increase in the cost of living in Curaçao. The indexation of 5 cents implies that the minimum wage per week- and monthly wages need to be adjusted.
Based on the minimum hourly wage of 8.20 guilders, the minimum weekly wage for someone who works 40 hours per week, increases to 328 guilders. With a 45-hour work week this is 369 guilders. For a 48-hour week, the sum is 393.60 guilders.
