Ministry of Finance is considering giving a ‘discount’

taxesWILLEMSTAD - According to the Minister of Finance, Kenneth Gijsbertha the Tax Office will give anyone who owes taxes before the period of 2014 a 20% discount on what they owe. This is according to the current plans to collect what companies or individuals owe in back taxes.

A committee representing the Tax Inspectorate, the Tax Collector, Customs and the Ministry of Finance is currently discussing the possibility of losing one-fifth of the amount of debt owed in back taxes. “If this measure is implemented effectively, there will be certain conditions,” says the Minister.

“After paying the debt, you will have to comply with your taxes according to the law over a period of three years. If you don’t do this in that period then the discount you received will be added again to your outstanding debt.”

The shortage of 50 million guilders on the national budget is due to back taxes. By the end of this year, the Minister wants to have this issue resolved. He wants to have a closing budget, or at least a budget with a manageable deficit.
